Set Up Your Squads

Written by Matthew Bremner

Squads are your groups of teams, and the order you list their grades in drives how NetCaptain builds sessions. You'll have set a few up during onboarding; here's how to add more and edit them.

Tip: we recommend giving each junior age group its own squad. Dates are set per squad, so a separate squad for each age group keeps their training days and sessions apart.

  1. Open Squads. You'll see any squads you already have, each with its grades and bowling targets.

  2. Add a squad. Click Add squad, give it a name (like Under 14s), and pick a colour so you can tell your squads apart at a glance.

  3. Add your grades in ladder order. Add a grade for each team in that squad. For example, our Under 14s have three teams: Blue, Gold and Maroon. Drag them into ranked order, top to bottom, with your strongest team on top. This order really matters: it's how NetCaptain grades your players at training, working from your top team down.

  4. Everyone all-rounder (the junior rule). Next to each grade you'll see the Everyone all-rounder toggle. Switch it on and every player in that grade both bats and bowls, whatever their listed role. Ideal for juniors, where you want everyone having a go at both.

  5. Set your bowling targets. Choose how long you want your pace bowlers and your spinners bowling for, for example 45 minutes for pace and 60 for spin. NetCaptain uses these to share the bowling fairly and keep everyone's loads in check.

  6. Save the squad. Click Add squad, and it appears alongside your other squads.

At any stage you can reorder your teams, remove a team, or toggle Everyone all-rounder on and off. To edit or delete a squad later, use Edit or Delete on that squad from the Squads screen.
